FAQs

Here are answers to some Frequently Asked Questions about SurfLiquid:

Q: What is SurfLiquid in one sentence? A: SurfLiquid is an autonomous DeFi investing agent (powered by AI) that automatically moves your crypto into the best yield farming or lending opportunities, kind of like a robo-advisor for maximising DeFi returns.

Q: Which blockchain networks does SurfLiquid support? A: At launch, SurfLiquid operates on Base (and possibly other Ethereum Layer-2s or sidechains). The Stablecoin strategy is live on Base’s lending markets, and the Yield Farming strategy supports several EVM chains (e.g. Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Ethereum mainnet for certain vaults). You can deposit from the Ethereum mainnet or other chains, and the agent will bridge as needed. We plan to expand to more networks based on where good opportunities arise, guided by community demand.

Q: What tokens can I deposit? A: The primary supported tokens are USDC and USDT for the stablecoin strategy (as yield is optimised on those). For the yield farming strategy, you can generally deposit a major asset like ETH or a stablecoin, and the agent will swap as needed into the target farm’s tokens. Minimum deposit is kept low (around 5–10 USD worth) to let anyone try the service, though obviously, with very small amounts, network fees can eat into profits.

Q: How do I know the AI agent is making good decisions? A: SurfLiquid’s AI logic has been extensively tested and even backtested on historical data. It uses a combination of real-time monitoring and profit/loss calculation to ensure that any move it makes (like reallocating to a new protocol) is actually beneficial after fees. The platform is transparent – you can see every move in the transaction log. The agent effectively follows predetermined algorithms that aim to maximise APR/APY, so it’s not a black box randomly gambling with your money; it’s more of an automated optimiser following clear-cut rules and data signals.

Q: Is SurfLiquid safe? What if something goes wrong? A: SurfLiquid is built with a security-first approach. Your funds are always held in your own smart contract vault, not by us. We only use established, pre-audited contracts and limit strategies to reputable protocols—minimising risk and exposure. The agent operates with restricted permissions and can interact only with whitelisted contracts. If anything unexpected happens—such as a smart contract issue or strategy risk—you can immediately deactivate the agent and halt any further actions. Since the platform is non-custodial, you remain in control at all times and can always withdraw funds directly from the smart contract, even if the front end is unavailable. For extra safety, we are also exploring insurance and coverage options for users.

Q: What are the fees, and how do I pay them? A: The only fee SurfLiquid charges is a 10% performance fee on profits, taken at the end when you withdraw. There are no fees to deposit or to keep the agent running. You don’t need to “pay” the performance fee manually – the smart contract automatically deducts it from your gains. For example, if the agent earned you $100, it will transfer $90 to you and $10 to the fee pool when you withdraw. If the agent didn’t make a profit, you pay nothing. Also note, you do pay standard network gas fees for transactions (as with any DeFi action), but the agent tries to minimise those by batching tasks.

Q: Can I stop or pause the agent at any time? A: Yes. You have the ability to deactivate the agent whenever you want, directly from the dashboard. Once deactivated, the agent won’t make any further moves, and you can withdraw your funds immediately. If you just want to pause operations but not withdraw (perhaps to avoid moving in a volatile moment), you can deactivate (agent stops) and then later re-activate without withdrawing – your funds would simply sit idle in the smart account in the interim. We may introduce a “pause” feature in the UI for convenience.

Q: Does SurfLiquid have a token? A: Yes, the $SURF token is the native token of SurfLiquid. It’s a utility and governance token for the platform. $SURF holders can stake tokens to earn a share of platform fees, enjoy reduced performance fees, vote on proposals, and more (see the $SURF Token section above for details on how we’re creating an awesome token flywheel). It’s our way of decentralising ownership and rewarding the community that helps make SurfLiquid successful.

Q: How are my rewards handled? A: All yield and reward tokens earned by the agent are automatically claimed and compounded into your position. For instance, if you earn some BAL tokens from a Balancer pool, the agent will sell those BAL for more of your deposit asset and reinvest it. You don’t need to manually claim or swap rewards – SurfLiquid does it for you to maximise your returns. If you deactivate, any residual rewards will be claimed and converted on the spot as part of the withdrawal process, so you won’t miss out on anything.

Q: Can I trust that SurfLiquid won’t rug or do something crazy? A: Understandably, trust is a big issue in crypto. The beauty of SurfLiquid is that it’s built to minimise the need for trust through smart contracts and transparency. We literally can’t rug pull because we never have custody of user funds – your smart account won’t allow funds to move to non-whitelisted addresses (which the devs or anyone could be). The worst the agent could do on a bug is allocate wrongly among the whitelisted strategies, which is a financial strategy mistake, not theft. That said, our team has a reputable track record in DeFi and AI, and we’re putting our names behind the project. We’ve also open-sourced critical components. So, while we always encourage users to do their own research, we’re confident SurfLiquid is as safe and solid as they come. We invite scrutiny and questions – join our community discussions anytime.

Q: Where can I get support or talk to other users? A: We have an active Discord server and a presence on Crypto Twitter (X). You can find support channels, FAQs, and community chat in our Discord (invite link on our website). Our team (and friendly community mods) are there to help with any issues or questions. We also have a growing Telegram group if that’s your preference. For official announcements, follow our Twitter. And since we’re all degens here, memes and GM posts are welcome – just keep it respectful. 🏄‍♂️
